Soon, you can visit a restaurant the specializes in hot dogs and fish. The combination sounds odd, but Alex Lira, former chef at Normandy Farm bakery, thinks it’s the type of laid-back restaurant that James Island needs. Lira plans to open Bar George this fall!
The unique restaurant will be located next door to the Terrace Theater on James Island. It will take the place of the former Bowties JI Speakeasy.
At Bar Normandy, Lira specialized in fancy hot dogs which he plans on bringing to Bar George.
Aside from hot dogs and oysters, Bar George will specialize in cocktails and crudo. Lira will oversee operations at the bar, which is named after his late uncle who was known as the “hot dog king,” according to the Charleston City Paper.
They plan on being open six days a week, starting at 4 p.m. each day.
