What: Inaugural Ashley River Adventure Race
When: Saturday, March 2nd
If you like running and paddling, get ready for a brand new, one of a kind event for the Tri-County region. Friends of Dorchester County Parks and Dorchester County Parks and Recreation are launching the inaugural Ashley River Adventure Race.
The biathlon will start in Summerville with a 5K trail run at the future Ashley River Park site. Then start paddling down the Ashley River on a 8.5-mile journey by kayak or stand up paddleboard. The Inn at Middleton Place will host the awards ceremony and post-race party, featuring live music, BBQ, local craft beer, wine, and lawn games.
Dorchester County Councilman and Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman Jay Byars states, “This race has been a dream of mine since we acquired the Ashley River Park property several years ago. I am excited for residents and visitors alike to experience this amazing piece of property and the unique Ashley River Blue Trail. This is a race that will challenge the ultra-competitive athlete yet also allow a father and daughter or mother and son to race together and create memories that will last a lifetime.”
Families are welcome to participate in the Family Fun Float, a more leisurely 5-mile paddle downstream starting at Jessen Landing.
Proceeds will benefit Friends of Dorchester County Parks.
