New dog park now open at Wannamaker County Park

Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) just opened a new six-acre dog park at Wannamaker County Park in North Charleston. This new and improved bark park replaces Wannamaker’s prior off-leash dog area, offering more room for play and parking. Plus, your pooch can cool off in the brand new “Splash Paw” dogs-only splash pad.  Two large meadows provide separate play areas for large and small dogs and when playtime is over, you can clean up at the dog washing station.

For human guests, there are new amenities including an 1800-square-foot restroom building, a drink vending machine, seating benches and shade structures. The new park also features on-site lighting, and electrical capability to allow for future special events. All facilities are ADA-compliant and accessible parking is also provided.

Admission to the dog park is included with regular daily admission to Wannamaker County Park, which is $2 per person or free with the Gold or Individual Pass.

CCPRC operates three off-leash dog parks in Charleston County for dogs exercise and socialize. These parks are open daily during normal park hours at James Island County Park, Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park, and North Charleston Wannamaker County Park. These are the only locations within Charleston County Parks where dogs are permitted to be off-leash. Charleston County Parks encourages all dog owners to review the dog park rules and guidelines for “petiquette” before visiting.
