It’s never too early to start preparing for a hurricane, and neither does it have to be a stressful time for you and your family. Here are a few tips for things you can do to protect yourself and your home ahead of any potential impact that could be felt in the Carolinas from Hurricane Florence.

  • Make sure you have enough non-perishable food for you, your family and your pets.
  • Make sure all prescriptions needed are stocked. Call your local pharmacy if you need a refill, or need suggestions for how to pack and store prescriptions away from home.
  • Make sure you know your home flood zones and that you are up to date on your insurance policy (this is also a good time to check what your insurance covers on your car!).
  • Don’t forget to take your important documents with you if you evacuate.

Evacuation routes are officially in effect. This means State Law Enforcement and Highway Patrol have reversed lanes on I-26 to head towards Columbia. For more information on these lane reversals, visit the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Twitter page:
