The Gathering Cafe
Yes, the Lowcountry is known for it’s southern (often fried) food, but it is possible to opt for healthier options that taste just as good! The Gathering Cafe, located in West Ashley, offers many vegetarian and vegan options to satisfy all. There are also daily specials for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
For breakfast try one of their oatmeal bowls made with fresh fruit and, it has a drizzle of the sweetest honey. Guests can build their own deliciously healthy dish for lunch or dinner. There are numerous combinations to pick and choose from with their vegetables and grains. Don’t worry, there are even options to add a protein like salmon, shrimp, chicken, or steak!
Popular menu items include the hummus and tahini that is oh so creamy! This dish includes pita bread, feta, sumac, sesame seeds, and of course chickpeas and olives! It might be meant for sharing, but it’s easy to eat the entire serving alone…(speaking from experience).
Their popular bowls are a must-try on the menu. The Teriyaki Bowl is gluten-free and vegan, so it’s not only delicious but guilt-free! Ingredients in the bowl include carrots, broccoli, mushroom, cabbage, avocado, sesame seeds, zucchini, brown rice, and it’s all marinated in tasty teriyaki sauce! Other bowls at The Gathering Cafe include Panang curry, Greek goddess, and Korean noodle.
Their Green and Grains section of the menu is worth checking out, too. Dishes included in the Greens and Grains are organic gluten-free mac and cheese and vegan grits!
The proof is in the pudding or shall we say the hummus? It is possible to eat healthy, guilt-free comfort food! Take a look at The Gathering Cafe’s complete menu here, and give it a try!
