Then there were two! After several local eateries and chefs were named on the semifinalist list for James Beard Awards last month, the short list of finalists is out and only two Charleston spots remain. FIG has been named a finalist for Outstanding Restaurant, awarded to “a restaurant that demonstrates consistent excellence in food, atmosphere, service, and operations” over 10 or more consecutive years. FIG is up against New York City’s Balthazar, Washington, D.C.’s Jaleo, San Francisco’s Quince and Philadelphia’s Zahav.
Scott Blackwell and Ann Marshall of High Wire Distilling Company have been named finalists for Outstanding Wine, Beer or Spirits Professional. This award is given to ‘a beer, wine, or spirits producer who demonstrates consistency and exceptional skill in his or her craft.” Also making the finalist list in this category are California’s Corison Winery, Matthiasson Wines and St. George Spirts, and Allagash Brewing Company of Portland, ME.
The Awards Winners will be chosen at a gala in Chicago on May 6.
