Martin’s Bar-B-Que is now open at 1622 Highland Avenue in James Island. Lead by Pitmaster Pat Martin it’s the first location in the state for the Tennessee based restaurant.
Plenty of outdoor seating under the shade of oak trees plus a beer garden with views of two pits smoking hogs fresh each day. Inside the eclectic decoration includes photos from Martin’s youth and other nostalgic memorabilia, giving the place a classic BBQ joint feel.
The menu is made from scratch daily with the intention of running out, they don’t even have a freezer.
Whole Hog Barbecue Sandwich topped with slaw,
Fried Catfish Tacos with melted jack and cheddar cheese, pickled jalapeños, topped with slaw and a lime wedge,
Smoked Wings tossed in Martin’s house-made Alabama White Sauce.
Southern sides like Potato Salad and Cornbread Hoecake, from Martin’s family recipes.
Desserts including Mrs. Kitty’s Coconut Cake and Southern Fried Pie with blackberry filling.
There are plenty of cool drinks to go along with the barbecue menu including an assortment of local brews on tap and a wine list curated by Martin, plus cocktails like the Cumberland Grog crafted with gold rum, gin, allspice and Cheerwine.
