The all-day brunch restaurant Ruby Sunshine is now open in downtown Charleston, located at 171 E Bay Street. Ruby Sunshine offers New Orleans-inspired twists on traditional Southern brunch favorites. Their menu includes: Eggs Benedicts, Beignets, Bananas Foster Pain Perdu and seasonally stuffed French Toast, just to name a few. They also serve cocktails on top of that.
The restaurant has space to seat 170 people indoors. Not to mention another 30 can enjoy their outdoor patio. A second restaurant, Ruby Slipper Café, is expected to open in West Ashley’s Avondale area in 2022. Ruby Sunshine is also committing to the community through charitable donations. One such fundraising effort is their plan to donate $1 to the Lowcountry Food Bank for every order of their wintertime bennie special, Hot Honey Ham & Greens Benedict.
Husband and wife team, Jennifer & Erich Weishaupt were inspired by the powerful sense of homecoming they felt after returning to New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina. So they opened the original Ruby Slipper Café to draw people back to their Mid-City New Orleans neighborhood. Born from that cozy storefront in 2008, Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group now operates 11 Ruby Slipper Café locations across the Gulf Region. It continues to expand throughout the Southeast with Ruby Sunshine and provide new audiences with the unique flavors and hospitality. The downtown Charleston restaurant marks the first South Carolina restaurant and ninth Ruby Sunshine location.
