‘Tis the season for oyster roasts

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Lowcountry Weekend) - Colder temperatures and a new year can only mean one thing in the Lowcountry: it’s time for oyster roast season! Here’s a list of some of the big events you can check out this winter.

Bohemian Bull Oyster Roast Series- every Thursday- Head out to Bohemian Bull on Folly Road every Thursday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. for their weekly oyster roasts and live music. The oysters roasts are open to the public and are all you can eat for just $25. This is a seated event with full service. Seating is limited, so make sure you get there early. More info here.

Bowen’s Island- The Great Save the Lighthouse Oyster Roast- January 9- Great oysters, great music and great fun for a great cause. Enjoy all you can eat oysters, beer, wine, chicken bog, hot dogs, chili, desserts and drinks. Live music will be supplied by The Shakin Martinis with The Salty Divas, Johnny Ace and Sidewalk Zydeco. All inclusive tickets are $50 and 100% of the proceeds go to support the Morris Island Restoration Fund. More info and tickets here.

Charleston Southern’s Buc Town Oyster Fest- Get ready to shuck down in Buc Town! Enjoy pounds and pounds of steaming oysters, live entertainment, contests and inflatables. Tickets are just $15. Learn more here.

Duck’s Unlimited Oyster Roast & Lowcountry Cookout- Charleston Visitor Center- February 18- As part of SEWE, indulge in oysters and a classic Lowcountry cookout, featuring an open bar, music, raffles and auctions. Only 1,500 tickets are available. Get yours and learn more here.

Firefly Distillery- Every second Saturday in January, February and March- Firefly will be teaming up with Lowcountry Oyster Co. for all you can eat local oysters with accoutrements and a bloody mary bar. Local food trucks and live music will be part of each event, taking place from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Tickets are not required to visit the distillery, but should be purchased ahead of time for oyster roast. All you can eat oysters are $25 per person. Gloves and knives will be available for purchase in the gift shop. Events are rain or shine and leashed dogs are welcome! More info here.

HALOS Shuckin’ on the Harbor Oyster Roast- February 6- Amazing views of the harbor, live music and of course all you can eat oysters and other delicious Lowcountry cuisine are all highlights of this event. Tickets are $60 in advance or $75 at the door. Please note: proof of Covid-19 vaccine or a negative test within 72 hours for all ages will be required. Learn more here.

Lowcountry Oyster Festival- Boone Hall Plantation- February 6- 60,000 pounds of oysters! They call this one the world’s largest oyster festival. Highlights will include live music from Andrew Beam and the Bluestone Ramblers, wine, beer, a children’s area and a food court showcasing a variety of local favorite restaurants. Tickets start at just $22 and can be purchased here.

Patriots Point- Oysters on the Point- January 8, February 5 and March 26- Join in for this monthly oyster roast series. Enjoy live music, steamed oysters, local vendors, bonfires and more from 2:00-6:00 p.m. More information here.
