Travel + Leisure ranks Charleston as best U.S. city for 10th consecutive year

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Lowcountry Weekend) - Congratulations, Charleston! Travel + Leisure released its list of America’s best cities and the Holy City ranked at the top for the 10th year in a row.

The magazine asks its readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the world to rank cities on their sights and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping and overall value, its website states.

This year’s 10th consecutive first-place ranking earns the Holy City a “World’s Best Awards Hall of Fame” honor.

“There’s a reason people keep going back to Charleston: the city expresses the perfect balance of Southern charm, knockout food and drinks, and walkability,” the magazine writes. “Many readers also found the city’s history to be a draw. Others appreciated the simple pleasures of strolling the side streets of downtown.”

New Orleans came in second and Santa Fe, New Mexico ranked third on the list.

Savannah, the nearest city to rank in the top 15, came in at fourth place on the list.

On top of that, Charleston was the only American city to rank in Travel + Leisure’s list of the 25 best cities around the world. Charleston came in 23rd place in that list.

The 2022 World’s Best survey was open for voting from Oct. 25 through Feb. 28. Readers can also rate everything from airports to spas, cruise ships to hotels, and cruise ships to U.S. national parks.
