5K to honor heroes of 9/11 this weekend

DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. (Lowcountry Weekend) - The Travis Manion Foundation’s 9/11 Heroes Run 5K will unite runners, ruckers and walkers of all ages Saturday on Daniel Island.

Rucking, by the way, is a sport based on Special Forces training in which people walk or run while carrying weighted rucksacks.

The annual event honors the heroes of the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as those who have served the nation since that day.

The event is scheduled for Saturday at Charleston Fire Dept. Station 18, located at 235 Seven Farms Dr. on Daniel Island. An opening ceremony to remember the fallen will take place at 8 a.m. The race starts at 8:30 a.m.

Registration is open on the event’s website.

Single registrations for the 5K are $35 for adults or $115 for a family four-pack with discounts for active duty military for fires responders.
