Lowcountry favorite marks 50th anniversary with 99-cent deals

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Regulars and newcomers helped a Lowcountry staple celebrate its golden anniversary Friday.

Ye Ole Fashioned Cafe & Ice Cream first opened its doors in West Ashley in 1972.

To mark 50 years in business, the company thanked its customers with 99-cent single-scoop ice cream and 99-cent hot dogs on Friday.

The special price was in effect all day Friday until closing and is available at the following five locations:

  • West Ashley: 474 Savannah Hwy.
  • West Ashley: 1319 Sam Rittenberg Blvd.
  • Mount Pleasant: 1502 Hwy. 17
  • North Charleston: 6554 Rivers Ave.
  • Goose Creek: 209A St. James Ave.

The original location first opened as an ice cream-only shop. Since then, it has expanded its menu to include burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs and chicken. Locations offer more than 30 flavors of ice cream by the scoop, as well as milkshakes and sundaes.

It has also grown across the Lowcountry with a total of seven locations.

The two Summerville shops did not participate in the one-day promotion, but said on their Facebook page they will announce their own plans for a celebration of the big anniversary!
