Folly Beach, South Carolina — FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (Lowcountry Weekend) - Folly Beach is the place to be for New Year’s fun, with the annual Flip-Flop Drop & Fireworks show and the Bill Murray Look-a-Like Polar Plunge and costume contest all happening this weekend!
On New Year’s Eve, count down to 2023 while watching a giant pair of sparkly flip-flops drop to mark the new year. Right after the clock strikes midnight, the sky will light up with a grand display of fireworks on the beach hosted by the Folly Association of Business. Center Street will close to cars at 10 p.m. to allow revelers to flow into the street before midnight.
On Sunday, the celebration continues with a chilly plunge into the Atlantic dressed up as your favorite Bill Murray character! Prizes will be awarded to Best Girl, Best Guy, Best Kid, Best Team, and Best Overall Bill Murray costumes. Contest registration starts at 9 a.m. at the Tides Hotel. Costume judging starts at 10 a.m., followed by the plunge at 11 a.m. There is a $5 entry fee for the contest, but no charge for the plunge!
