Name the properties you’d like to see in a Charleston-themed Monopoly game

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Forget Boardwalk and Park Place: MONOPOLY: Charleston Edition is coming soon!

The Holy City-themed version of the world’s most popular board game will be released this fall. Through April 7, fans can voice the locations they’d like to see featured on the board. They can send their picks via email at Charleston@toptrumps.com.

“It’s only fitting that one of the most historic cities in America would be represented in a special edition of one of the country’s most historic board games,” Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg said. “We are honored to have been chosen for this partnership, and I look forward to playing a round of MONOPOLY: Charleston Edition!”

The newest Monopoly edition will replace traditional Atlantic City landmarks with those from the Lowcountry and will even include customized “Community Chest” and “Chance” playing cards.

Top Trumps, the company that is manufacturing the localized edition, wants the game to accurately portray what locals love about the Charleston area, spokesperson Katie Hubbard said.

“Anything and everything is up for consideration, including the Charleston RiverDogs, the Pineapple Fountain, the Charleston Museum or Rainbow Row, and we want to know your favorite Charleston places that must be on the board – so please get involved!” she said. “This edition will be everything you love about the traditional board, adapted in a way that Charlestonians will enjoy for generations to come. There will also be opportunities in the coming months for the community and individuals alike to get involved in the creation of this game, so stay tuned for more exciting details.”

Monopoly, which is owned by Hasbro, was first introduced back in 1935.
