North Charleston Arts Fest returns for 40th year

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Lowcountry Weekend) - A celebration of arts and culture highlighted by talented local and regional artists and performers is returning to North Charleston for the 40th installment of the event.

The North Charleston Arts Fest takes place May 3-7 at venues around North Charleston.

The five-day event will feature concerts, art demos, kids’ programs, exhibitions and the Arty Block Party.

Art Fest competitions of judged art and photography, the South Carolina Palmetto Hands Fine Craft and Tri-County Youth Art and High School Sculpture competitions and exhibitions will be housed in exhibit hall C of the Charleston Area Convention Center. The art will be on display throughout the festival.

Park Circle Gallery will feature a solo exhibit of Arts Fest poster design competition winner Christopher Dotson.

Other displays around the city include the 17th annual National Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition at North Charleston Riverfront Park and the 16th Annual African American Fiber Art Exhibition at North Charleston City Hall.

North Charleston Arts Fest will also have music and dance performances.

The Colour of Music Festival will make its North Charleston debut with performances from the group’s quartet and quintet on May 4 at the Eternal Father of the Sea Chapel on the former Charleston Naval Base.

Oak Terrace Preserve hosts the World Dance Showcase on May 6 and a jazz concert by Charleston Jazz Express on May 7.

The Arts Fest Arty Block Party is May 6 on East Montague Avenue and features vendor booths, live music and other entertainment.
