The Mount Pleasant Pier offers fishing on the Charleston Harbor and under the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. Opened in 2009, the pier is built on pilings from the old Silas N. Pearman Bridge, which have become a haven for many types of fish including red drum, spotted sea trout, flounder and sheepshead.
The Folly Beach Pier stretches out 1045 feet into the ocean and common catches include blue fish, sheepshead, spotted sea trout and whiting. Although the pier is scheduled for renovations this summer, several events will take place before construction begins.
The pier will also host the annual “Take a Kid Fishing Day,” a free kids’ tournament hosted by the Folly Beach Anglers, on June 1 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Everything you need is available on site, including equipment rentals, tackle, frozen bait, snacks and restrooms. Plus, staff is always on hand to answer your questions.
Register online at CharlestonCountyParks.com/fishing through the Thursday prior to each tournament. You can also register on site beginning at 6 a.m. the day of the event. Registration fees vary and remember parking is extra at the Folly Pier.
