Delicious food and great places to eat are two things the Lowcountry is known for, and a pair of Lowcountry restaurants just ranked in Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat for 2019.
Only one other South Carolina restaurant made the list.
Halls Chophouse, which has ranked high on several surveys over the past few years, came in at 18th place. The restaurant, located at 434 King Street in downtown Charleston, boasts a 4.5-star rating out of a possible five based on 1,506 reviews on the social review site.
“First, let me begin by saying this is hands down the best steak I have ever eaten, and one of my top two favorite meals ever,” one Georgia resident’s review began.
“Charleston instituition. Well deserved accolades. Vibrant atmosphere. Impeccable service. Incredible food. Great bar,” a Charleston resident wrote.
Halls Chophouse also appeared on the site’s 2018 list.
The other Lowcountry restaurant, Myles and Jun Yakitori, in Summerville, ranked in 33rd place. The Japanese restaurant is located at 710 Bacons Bridge Road and has a 5-star rating based on 383 reviews.
“The greatest little Japanese joint tucked away in a strip mall,” a Wisconsin resident wrote on Yelp.
“The family that owns this place will treat you like one of their own. The food is top tier, but how they care for their patrons and community is without equal,” a Summerville resident who gave five stars wrote.

The site looked at the reviews received in restaurant and food categories and considered both the ratings and volume of reviews, while taking into account the volume of reviews in each restaurant’s area.
The only other South Carolina to make the list was the Maple Street Business Company in Greenville.
This is the sixth year the site has compiled a list of top restaurants nationwide.
