Chick-Fil-A is introducing an American classic, mac and cheese, to its menu, making it the first new permanent side dish in three years.
As of Monday, Chick-Fil-A restaurants nationwide are offering macaroni and cheese as a side option with any lunch or dinner including kids’ meals.
And if you’re a purist when it comes to mac and cheese, the side is also available just by itself.
The chain says its mac and cheese includes a special blend of cheddar, Parmesan and Romano cheeses.
“Mac & Cheese is the quintessential comfort food, and something we are so excited to offer our guests at Chick-fil-A. We think it’s the perfect pairing with our Original Chicken Sandwich, nuggets and our grilled chicken offerings, but it’s also great on its own as a snack,” Chick-Fil-A spokesperson Amanda Norris said. “Mac & Cheese is also available on our catering menu as a quick pick-up for a larger gathering. It has a delicious, homemade taste!”
The company tested mac and cheese in five markets before the announcement to roll it out nationwide.
Restaurants will make the side fresh every day, the company says. It’s the first time since 2016 that the chain has added a new permanent side item.
“We have a very high bar when it comes to adding a menu item,” Norris said. “But the feedback from our customers in the test markets made this decision easy.”
Also on Monday, the restaurant chain rolled out a frosted caramel coffee treat, which is available for a limited time through Nov. 9 or while supplies last. The drink combines Chick-Fil-A’s cold-brewed coffee with vanilla Icedream dessert and caramel syrup.
Earlier this month, Chick-Fil-A dethroned In-N-Out as America’s favorite fast-food restaurant, according to a survey conducted by MarketForce.
