A 44-year-long history will continue! Spoleto Festival USA had to cancel this year, but SC Public Radio plans to give them a boost. They’ll offer Spoleto Festival programming as part of a new “Spoleto at Home” initiative. Starting this Friday, enjoy 17 days of programming sent straight to you! You’ll be able to enjoy the festival from the comfort of your living room.
From May 22 – June 5, enjoy “Sonatas & Soundscapes”. It airs Monday – Thursday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Fridays from 11 a.m. – noon. The program features 11 “Chamber Music from Spoleto Festival USA” performances from the past decade. Also, Geoff Nuttall, the artistic director of the festival’s “Bank of America Chamber Music” series, will select the 11 performances. On top of that, he will also provide commentary regarding each selection.
The program plans to include the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the founding of Charleston. It will featuring music that may have been composed and performed during that period.
