Travel + Leisure names Charleston best city in U.S. for 7th year in a row

Readers of Travel+ Leisure magazine have again named the Holy City as the best city in the United States. It’s the seventh year in a row that Charleston received the honor.

Charleston topped locations like Savannah, New Orleans and Asheville to take the top honors in the annual survey.

Charleston has earned the top spot in the best city in the United States list since 2013, according to the magazine.

The magazine listed dreamy Spanish-moss-draped oaks, candy-colored row houses, the city’s food scene and its sense of history as the reasons Charleston is like no place else. One reader called the Rainbow Row area of downtown charleston “an absolute Instagram dream.”

Santa Fe, New Mexico came in at second place while New Orleans came in at third place. Savannah and New York City rounded out the top five.

Charleston and Santa Fe were the only two U.S. cities to rank in the 15 Best Cities in the World in the same survey. Charleston ranked among internationally-known cities like Rome, Florence, Bangkok and Tokyo.
